Welcome to MPC!

FAQ We are an online company–this allows us to have a streamlined business that keeps prices low. All of our products are in large walk-in freezers–not conducive to browsing. Rather than a storefront, we are transparent thru detailed descriptions, photos &  prices for our products online.

Our headquarters/warehouse is in downtown Indianapolis. In general, we have a manager on staff Monday thru Friday 10 AM-6 PM. However, we’re running around a lot during those times. We ask that all orders are placed online–our inventory & credit card processing are tied to that system. If you order online we ask that you give us at least 3 business hours to pack your order before you come to pickup. If you are ordering with the intention of picking up sometime in the future, please include a note on your order with the desired day & time you wish to pickup.

We are very proud of our facility, so if the situation allows, we’ll be happy to show you around. We look forward to serving you!

It's All About the Pet Food

wisconsin FAQUnlike humans, dogs &  cats have digestive tracts that are equipped to handle raw meat. Although you should obviously use safe handling procedures with all raw meat, our food can be in the refrigerator for several days without any problem. As long as you feel comfortable feeding the food, it should be fine. –Keep in mind, it is fine to thaw & refreeze our food.

The two grinds are the same product, just different textures. In general, the coarse is a chunkier grind, close to what one might see in sausage, with visible pieces of bone. The fine is a little bit finer than regular hamburger with tiny pieces of bone. The difference in texture is not dramatic. However, many cats &  small dogs may prefer the finer grinds.

FAQ chicagoland cat boxThere is no such thing as a “starter protein”, regardless of breed. We recommend that you feed a wide variety of foods to give them the greatest range of nutrients & to discourage picky eating. We do, however, recommend feeding one protein for 2-3 meals at first before starting another one to help in the transition.

We recommend a diet consisting of a variety of whole prey proteins. This is what we believe nature intended. Any My Pet Carnivore products that have “Whole Ground…” or “Whole Prey…” in the description are the complete animal minus intestines, fur or feathers. (Some products made from larger animals, like cows & goats, do not include the head.) If you are looking for an easy meal, that’s the way to go! We also have many ground & chunk items that are great for DIY raw feeders or the occasional snack. We believe that a wide variety of meals is as important for your pets’ optimal health as it is for us humans.

Feeding Suggestions

Most of us here don’t have personal experience feeding raw food & kibble together. However, some sources say there’s no problem. Just decrease the percentage of kibble & increase the corresponding percentage of raw food. Your pets will thank you for feeding them fresh, life-giving meats, bones & organs.

Our producer holds 1 federal & 2 state licenses for pet food manufacturing &  must comply with AAFCO labeling standards to maintain them. While we will forgo the heated debate about the motivations of AAFCO here, the real issue is their requirement of additives so that every meal is complete without recognizing the wholistic approach of variety. Humans rarely have a “nutritionally complete” meal (most of us never have), but we know the basics of good nutrition &  know to vary our diets enough to include all of the things we need. We believe that this is true for our pet’s diet as well.

Our first priority is to procure the most naturally-raised livestock for our food. None of our food is from large factory farms. By supporting small farms, we know that we are getting the healthiest animals which provide the highest nutrition for your furry family members. We rest easy knowing that the animals that go into our products are superior to those that become grocery store meats for humans!

It has been our experience that by feeding a whole prey diet with a variety of proteins over time, your dog, cat or ferret will get all of the nutrients that a healthy pet needs. However, some folks do add supplements, that’s fine too.

Most products have nutritional breakdowns on the product page, listing the fat, protein & moisture content.

For adult dogs and cats, you typically want to feed between 2-3% of their body weight daily. For adult ferrets, you want to feed about 10% of their body weight daily. For growing fur babies, it’s about double those percentages. Feel free to check out our Feeding Chart for more information.

Regarding My Order

We currently deliver via freezer truck to a wide variety of locations within Indiana.

Great news! We deliver via FedEx to all 48 contiguous states. Your FedEx charges are calculated & available for you to view during checkout.

If you live near Indiana you may also see Eco-Delivery as a shipping option.

FAQ alpacaThankfully, we work with a lot of small farmers to bring your pets the highest quality pet-food.

Unfortunately, that does mean we occasionally experience shortages, but please know that we work on a daily basis to fill those shortages. We receive new inventory from Schoenborn Farms most Mondays and Thursdays. The website is normally updated with new products by 1 PM that day.

Feel free to sign up for an alert on your desired out-of-stock product by clicking on that item from the category page. Thank you so much for your understanding!

Email us at orders@mypetcarnivore.com, & we can make that change for you if it’s before the route’s deadline. If it’s a last minute change, please call 317.694.4749.

There are no minimums! You can order as much or as little as you would like

We deliver throughout the state of Indiana. Go to your desired route page. Each page has a listing of when & where each drop-off occurs. At check-out, simply select the desired location from the list of nearby locations based on your provided address. We’ll have your order ready at that stop! Look for our logo’d freezer trucks.

Please contact us as soon as possible! You have three days after you’ve received your order to report any issues. We need to know what’s wrong in order to make it right!

add to my order If you ordered for delivery on an Indiana route: Simply place an additional order. During check-out, instead of choosing your usual delivery location/method, you’ll choose “Add to my existing order”. This will let you place the add-on order without getting charged another delivery fee. Please limit add-ons to two orders per delivery cycle. (If this option doesn’t appear, your order isn’t eligible because your existing order has already been processed, does not exist on your account, or you are not signed into your account)

To add to a FedEx order: Either place a second FedEx order or contact us to cancel the first to allow you to put everything on one order.

To remove an item, please contact us to cancel the entire order. You are then free to place another order without the undesired product.

Eco-Delivery

For our Eco-Delivery service we are utilizing smaller local couriers that will deliver the order to your door. This offers a better shipping price compared to FedEx & faster turnaround time from us dropping off the package to it being delivered. This allows us to use less packing material while still getting the order to you frozen.

Eco-Delivery orders are still shipped with insulation & dry ice. So, they will arrive frozen. We drop the orders off at the courier either the day before or the day of the delivery. This gives the order very little time to thaw.

The shipping fee for Eco-Delivery is $17.95 for any weight & free for orders over $250!

Delivery for central IN area is Tuesday & Thursday. Orders must be placed by Sunday at 11:59 PM for delivery Tuesday. The deadline for Thursday delivery is Tuesday by 11:59 PM.

For Western MI the deadline is Monday at 1 AM for delivery on Tuesday.

For areas in IL, WI & northern IN deliveries are made on Thursday with a deadline of Tuesday at 11:59 PM.

Eco-Deliveries are delivered to your door! No need to leave your home.

If Eco-Delivery is available in your area you will see it as a Delivery Option at checkout. You can also see a delivery map of the current areas we offer Eco-Delivery to on our Delivery Methods page.

FedEx Orders

My Pet Carnivore has negotiated with FedEx to get significantly reduced shipping rates. We pass these savings on to you. My Pet Carnivore does not make any money on shipping. In fact, we subsidize every box in an attempt to make it more affordable for you!

We have no shipping minimum. However, the more densely packed your box is, the longer it will stay frozen.

All our items are shipped frozen in insulated boxes with dry ice. We also add packing peanuts to help reduce the amount of warm air circulating in the box. We do our best to ensure that we pack enough dry ice into each order that the order will arrive cold, if not frozen. Some thawing may occur & that is nothing to worry about.

We use dry ice to help keep our products cold during transit. Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide, which is a normal part of the Earth’s atmosphere. Carbon dioxide forms dry ice when it reaches -109.3 F, this makes dry ice especially helpful for shipping frozen goods. Dry ice transitions directly from a solid, back into a gas, without going through a liquid stage. We pack each order with enough dry ice to keep items cold during the estimated transit time. Orders will sometimes arrive without any dry ice left in the box. This is normal & acceptable.

Despite our best efforts to keep orders frozen during transit, thawing may occur. If you receive your order & the product it is thawed, but still cold, it is safe to feed or refreeze. You can read about the USDAs freezing & food safety guidelines here: https://www.fsis.usda.gov/food-safety/safe-food-handling-and-preparation/food-safety-basics/freezing-and-food-safety

If for some reason you choose to call FedEx & have them hold your order at a location, please know that Dollar Generals & Walgreens will not hold perishable orders that contain dry ice. So, you will need to choose a FedEx location that is not a Dollar General or Walgreens.

The estimated transit time applies to ground shipments. It is the time that FedEx is typically able to get a package from our HQ in Indianapolis to different areas. The estimated transit time starts the day after FedEx picks an order up from us. For example: The estimated transit time is 2 days. The package is shipped on Monday. You should not expect to see your package until Wednesday, because Tuesday &  Wednesday are the 2 transit days.

Ground shipping is shipped via truck only. Express options are shipped via air. So, any ground shipments are likely to take longer than express options. Additionally, the trucks used to transport packages via ground are not refrigerator or freezer trucks. Ground shipping also has no guaranteed delivery time, while Express does have guaranteed delivery times.

All of the states covered by our Flat Rate shipping rates receive FedEx Ground shipping. If you are in a Flat Rate state & would like to investigate the cost of Express shipping please leave a note on your order requesting the prices of Express options. We will be happy to email those to you. If you choose to change to Express shipping we will need to call you to get your credit card information to charge you the difference (this is because we do not keep credit card information on file). You’ll find the map that shows our flat rate shipping zone on our FedEx page.

Unfortunately, we are not able to ship to PO Boxes. Please include a physical address for us to ship your order to. If you use a PO Box as your shipping address, we will email you to ask for a physical address. This process may delay your order being shipped.

If you have special delivery instructions for the FedEx driver you will need to contact FedEx directly with those instructions. To give your instructions to FedEx you can use this link: https://www.fedex.com/apps/fdmenrollment/?locale_en_US

If your order contains only items that do not need to be frozen, we will issue a refund for any extra shipping costs. To draw our attention to the fact that you have no frozen products in your order you can leave a note for us in the “order notes” section at checkout.

The express shipping options apply to how long it will take FedEx to get your order to you once they have it. This does not include the time we need to process & pack you order. For instance, if you order & choose 2-Day shipping you will not necessarily get your package two days after the order is placed. Instead, we will take 1-2 business days to pack & process your order. Then FedEx will get your order. Once FedEx has your order, they should get it to you in two days. If you need your order as soon as possible you can leave a note on the order in the “order note” sections at checkout to let us know. We will do our best to honor that, & get your order shipped out as quickly as we can.
Additionally, with express packages FedEx does not include the weekend in their shipping time frame. So, if it is a Wednesday & you order 3-Day shipping, FedEx would not get the package to you until Monday. However if a 2 day order was shipped on a Wednesday then you would receive the package by Friday. But if a 2 day package was shipped on Thursday you would not receive it until Monday.

You are only charged for product weight, but we add more weight to the box in the form of dry ice & packaging materials. So, the overall weight of the package is the product weight plus the weight that we add for packing.

To change your shipping address please contact us. We will change your address on our end. Please note, that if your order has already been shipped we will need to contact FedEx with your new address. This may result in delivery delays.

We typically print the labels for orders a business day in advance of when we plan to ship them. So, we print most of Monday’s labels the Friday before. When we print the label this creates the tracking number. Sometimes, as soon as FedEx has the tracking number they will start to show a delivery date even though they have not actually picked the order up from us yet. So, if you requested Monday and FedEx is showing that they picked the order up on Friday. This is what is going on.
