Our Product Promise
The Schoenborns are our manufacturing partners for our product line. They have a high standard of excellence in every animal raised & every item procured for our food. The animals must be healthy & the individual items all come from facilities approved to produce human-grade food. Sourcing is our #1 concern. Our chickens come, primarily, from spent hens. So, they are not pumped with unnatural feed, steroids, or other additives to add bulk. We do have many “yard birds” as well–farmers that raise a dozen or fewer chickens for their own use. Rabbits are mostly from what we call our “micro growers”–people who raise rabbits only for show purposes (they are amazing caregivers). Grazing animals have access to fresh air, sunshine & are fed primarily grasses & hay. Since many of our farmers are so far north, their diets may be supplemented as seasons dictate. Many of our offerings are wild-caught, such as muskrat, beaver & fish. Our trout, whitefish & herring are from Lake Michigan. Sardines are fished off the coast of Mexico. Animals are primarily from farmers in Michigan, Indiana & Illinois. Our products do not contain denaturants, grains, additives, colorants, or added vitamins. Our products are not HPP (High Pressure Pasteurized) or irradiated. The animals used in our food are never 3-D or 4-D. They are antibiotic-free, hormone-free & steroid-free.
About Our Deli Containers
Our 1 LB. & 2 LB. deli containers are made from #5 plastic with #4 plastic lids. These types of plastic are considered safe for cold food storage. They are BPA-free. They are commonly used by restaurants & supermarkets & are accepted by most recycling programs.
Use of Chemicals
We may never have the pleasure of having you as a guest at our headquarters in Indianapolis, IN. However, our facility says a lot about who we are. We believe in being gentle to our environment. We abstain from the use of pesticides & herbicides, avoid the use of anti-bacterial soaps which contain carcinogens & contribute to bacterial resistance. We use only pet-safe salts to melt ice in the winter. We strive to be good stewards of packing materials & other resources, recycling as many of our cardboard boxes & extra containers as possible. Our reefer trucks run on diesel which, by law, uses additives to decrease emissions. In short, much like many of our valued customers, we seek to lessen our negative impact on our environment.
Community Support
In addition to our commitment to our Monthly Featured Charities, we contribute to the Fountain Fletcher District & support some local fundraisers. Art studios are located on our premises, adjacent to our delivery truck storage. We built a radio studio into a space at our Headquarters to benefit a local, non-profit radio station, WITT 91.9 FM, on which we are keen. We love local, independent businesses & organizations!
